“There are books which take rank in your life with parents and lovers and passionate experiences, so medicinal, so stringent, so revolutionary, so authoritative.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
What does a hand bookbinder do?
It is all about sewing and gluing layers of paper, making covers, decorating paper and leather, making boxes, folders and cassettes, slip cases and all sorts of containers; it is about repairing old and battered books so that they can be used again, and about restoring valuable books to their old “self” without sacrificing their soul.
